Iowa Child Sexual Abuse Cases-Child Defined

by David A. Cmelik Law PLC

Pursuant to Iowa Code Sec. 702.5, for purposes of Title XVI, unless another age is specified, a "child" is any person under the age of fourteen. However, the Iowa criminal code does criminalize other acts involving minors older than fourteen. It should go without saying that both the State of Iowa and the United States government criminalize additional acts with minors. Consultation with, and retention of, an attorney licensed in Iowa and practicing exclusively in the area of criminal law, is advisable to assess whether acts in the past were criminal in nature. The attorney will not assess the legality of future acts. Generally speaking, if you have to ask, it isn't advisable.

If you or a loved one is now a target of an investigation for sexual abuse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Waterloo, or other Iowa community, contact David A. Cmelik Law PLC for an initial consultation today.
