There are four classicications of felonies in Iowa, ranging from Class D to Class A felonies.
Class C felonies are punishable by fines typically ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 and an indeterminate prison sentence of ten years. Class C felonies can be forcible felonies, which require prison, and some may be "seventy percenters," wherein the seven-tenths of the sentence must be served before eligibility for parole.
For example, Sex Abuse in the Third Degree is a forcible Class C felony that requires prison. So is Robbery in the Second Degree-- and it's also a seventy percent offense that requires the defendant to serve seven tenths before eligibility for parole.
